This book bears the Hallmarks of any waterfall book published by The Countryman Press. Perhaps it was their intention to create a waterfall franchise with their books as the stylistic similarity between this and other waterfall books in their portfolio is unmistakable.
Gary Letcher is an environmental lawyer who is clearly very passionate about waterfalls. His book is filled with information. It details 106 trips several of which involve more than one waterfall. Each section includes a map, and most have a photograph of the falls. The 212 pages of this book are relatively saturated with information, enabling waterfall enthusiasts the opportunity to spend a few years' worth of weekends in various watery pursuits.
The book also contains excellent information regarding geology of waterfalls, various methods to measure a waterfall, safety suggestions, and photographic tips. The layout is a basic reprise of the formula for the Bolnick's excellent "Waterfalls of the White Mountains", which in my opinion would be the gold standard for waterfall books if it only had color photographs. As far as a layout or template for a waterfall book, this formula is a proven winner.
The Bottom Line: This book will enable you to spend hundreds of happy hours on the trail in pursuit of waterfalls. If you're in the regeion, you should have this book, you won't be shortchanged.
