This waterfall book is devoted to the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Great Smoky Mountains. There is a great deal of text, but relatively few photographs in this book. That's a shame. The small section of color plates suggest that the quality of photos is very good, so why not utilize this strength?
The waterfalls are geographically arranged from northeast to southwest along the spine of the Appalachian Mountains. The introductory material concerns the standard fare: safety, etiquette, photography tips, etc. The text is well written, with inspiring descriptions, relevant history, and a fair amount of enthusiasm.
The Bottom Line: I personally feel the book could have been better executed by the inclusion of more photographs. In addition to being a decent writer, Ms. Blouin is a pretty decent photographer. It would have been nice to see more of her work in this book. It's a valuable resource if you're hunting for waterfalls, but it doesn't have the eye appeal that other books have.
