Joe Bushee is a dedicated waterfall enthusiast who clearly spends a lot of time out in the field exploring waterfalls. The book is a guidebook that paves the way for other enthusiasts to follow in his footsteps.
The book covers 55 waterfalls within the state of Massachusetts. Each is accompanied by a map and a black and white photo. The text is comprised of a succinct analysis: Directions and Trail Notes. The text may not have a great deal of literary merit...I noticed a dangling participle here or there (and I'm guilty of literary blunders too, so this isn't mean spirited criticism...) but really, who cares? It's full of waterfalls and their associated information. This is a big chunk of raw data!
The Bottom Line: Joe Bushee's text is clear and to the point. His maps are spot on. His photographs are decently composed and certainly illustrate the waterfall clearly. Perhaps a future edition of the book will be in color, on better paper, and will delve further into the history and geology of the waterfalls. Perhaps I'm being persnickety. I strongly recommend this book, and it's ALWAYS in tow when I make a waterfall trip to Massachusetts.
