On the surface, Ann Marie Brown's Northern California Waterfalls is a guidebook which could find its way onto the shelves of many waterfall hunters in the Golden States' north. As such a dedicated tome had not been penned until the release of this title, this was a niche area which had received poor to no coverage by other books, so upon seeing the impending publication of another book by the author of the excellent California Waterfalls, we were quite intrigued.

And then we got a copy. Now let me first say that this is not at all a bad product. Like Brown's California Waterfalls, the content is very descriptive and quite accurate. The photographs presented are all high quality (even though black and white) but more of them would have been nice. The ultimate problem with this book is that it holds the same content as California Waterfalls. Not just information about the same waterfall featured in California Waterfalls, but VERBATIM the same information. The same sentences, the same directions, the same photographs on the same pages, even the same chapter layout. Northern California Waterfalls is, for all intents and purposes, the exact same book as California Waterfalls - except without the last four chapters. That the author didn't at least rewrite some of the information for this title makes us think that this was a decision by the publisher, but who ever was responsible should be ashamed of themselves for this. California Waterfalls (4td edition) at the time of release retails for $19.99, while Northern California Waterfalls at the time of release retails for $16.99. All that needs to be said is pay the extra three bucks and get the other book.
