Corriente de Piedra Volada is the stream that drains a small catch basin in Mexico's scenic Copper Canyon, or Barranca del Cobre in its native tongue. The stream flows through a hanging valley then drops nearly 1500 feet to the depths of Cañon Candameña in the rugged Chihuahuan highlands.
Seasonal Discharge
This waterfall occurs along a stream that is known to vary greatly in volume and as a result may not flow consistently year round or may dry out completely during certain periods.

HISTORY AND NAMES

  • Piedra Volada, Cascada de is the Official name of this waterfall

The falls are named for a nearby rock formation. Piedra Volada translates to "flying stone".

Our thoughts

This is the tallest waterfall in Mexico. Located in a remote part of Mexico's famous Copper Canyon, the falls only flow during the wet season, and can only be seen from across the canyon, a moderate distance away. Despite the meager flow, and limited duration, the falls are quite scenic and are tucked away in a tremendous canyon setting festooned with pine trees and enormous rock spires and cliffs.
