This waterfall has been confirmed by the World Waterfall Database, has been mapped and its height has been approximated but exact measurements have not yet been confirmed.

We had suspected a relatively small waterfall between Catarata Chinata and Catarata Yumbilla. Amazon Waterfalls Association's site confirmed this theory. When we say relatively small, it is only by comparison as our estimate of the height is supported by Google Earth's elevation profile at being between 1312 feet (400 meters) and 1640 feet (500 meters.) At either figure, it's quite tall. The falls drop down a heavily forested ravine and burst out in a horsetail display that is likely 800' to 900' in height.

Our thoughts

Chachapoyas is home to the recently discovered (I'm quite sure the locals have known of the falls for generations and generations) Catarata Gocta. In 2003, the falls were brought to the attention of the outside world. Since that time, eco-trekkers and waterfall enthusiasts have been beating a steady path to the region. Happily, Gocta isn't the only attraction in the region as there are several other very tall waterfalls in the area.
