HISTORY AND NAMES
- Nohkalikai Falls is the Unofficial name of this waterfall
The falls have a rather dark and twisted history to the name. A woman named Ka Likai has a beloved daughter. Ka Likia remarried, however, her new husband was envious of Ka Likai's love for her daughter. Ka Likai was out gathering food and firewood and her husband killed the daughter and prepared a meal using the flesh of the daughter. Nice guy... Ka Likai came home and asked her new husband if he has seen the daughter. He replies that he has not, but before Ka Likai goes out to search, she should have a meal. After the meal is finished, Ka Likai discovers her daughter's fingers in a basket. Horrified and grieving, Ka Likai took her own life by throwing herself off the cliff adjacent to the falls giving the waterfall its name: Noh Ka Likai or "the fall of Ka Likai." Personally, I'd have chucked the husband over the edge...
This waterfall is located near several other of India's tallest waterfalls, including Nohsngithiang Falls and Kynrem Falls. We do not know how tall this waterfall is specifically, but we do know it is taller than 1035 foot Nohsngithiang Falls, and both Google Earth's elevation profile and Google's terrain maps support our suggested height figure.
