This waterfall has been surveyed, mapped and measured in person by the World Waterfall Database.
Photo of Marguerite Falls Marguerite Falls is a rather insignificant waterfall found cascading down a shaded gully adjacent to Route 8 just north of the Connecticut border. The stream feeding the falls drains from Lake Marguerite but the basin doesn't have a very large catchment area at all, so while the flow will be decent in the spring and early winter, during the summer and fall months the falls will be just a trickle unless there has been sustained periods of rain. When we surveyed the falls in October 2008 we measured its drop to be nearly 70 feet tall, which seems to be a rather liberally inaccurate figure. The true height of the falls is probably closer to 50 feet, but an exact height will have to wait until further surveying can be done.

Our thoughts

We wouldn't recommend traveling out of the way to see this waterfall. It can be pretty, but it isn't a destination in and of itself. Motorists driving along Route 8 may want to stop for a peak, but otherwise we would suggest seeking out better waterfalls in the area.

Location and directions

The falls can be found within along Route 8 in Sandisfield about 2/3 of a mile north of the Connecticut border. There is a large parking area on the east side of the road about 450 feet south of the bridge over the falls where visitors can pull off and walk back along the road to the bridge for a look.

Marguerite Falls is shown in the center. The 10 closest waterfalls within a 8km radius are shown as well (if any). Click any icon or see the list below for more information.

Photography tips

The woods are fairly thick around the falls, so there won't be much in the way of opportunity here. The bridge the falls are seen from is wide open, so part of the falls will be exposed to bright sunlight in the morning. Best light will be in the late afternoon hours, and best conditions for the falls in terms of appearance will be probably before the end of May.
