CATALOGED
This waterfall has been surveyed, mapped and measured in person by the World Waterfall Database.
Hedge Creek Falls is a small but scenic waterfall found immediately outside the small town of Dunsmuir, just off of Interstate 5. The falls plunge 28 feet over a cliff of columnar basalt, framed by several large boulders and trees lining the gully below, all of which makes a rather photogenic scene when there is ample water present. Hedge Creek is a spring-fed stream, so it does usually retain some volume throughout the year, but during the summer the volume of water is greatly reduced (such was the case when we surveyed the falls in late July 2009).

Our thoughts

Hedge Creek Falls makes a good rest stop for weary travelers passing along Interstate 5, but it isn't at all a destination worthy of seeking out in and of itself. If you find yourself in the Dunsmuir area and need a quick leg stretch, this is a good place to do so, but don't go out of your way to find this fall.

Location and directions

In the town of Dunsmuir, take the Dunsmuir Avenue exit from Interstate 5 and head towards town. The parking area for the Hedge Creek Falls National Scenic Trail is found immediately adjacent to the southbound off-ramp, along Mott Road, and is signed from both directions along the Interstate. The trail leads gradually downhill to the base of the falls in about 500 feet.

Hedge Creek Falls is shown in the center. The 10 closest waterfalls within a 8km radius are shown as well (if any). Click any icon or see the list below for more information.

Photography tips

Hedge Creek Falls is viewed from up-close, so expect spray to be a problem during periods of heavier flow. When the creek is running low during the summer, it may be difficult to make the falls look decent in a photograph. The falls face west and will see direct sunlight filtered through trees during the afternoon hours (so best to shoot in the morning).
