This waterfall has been surveyed, mapped and measured in person by the World Waterfall Database.
Angeline Falls is a 450 foot tall juggernaut where the subterranean outlet of Angeline Lake emerges from a long gully covered in talus and braids down the cliffs at the head of Delta Lake in a 120 foot wide wall of water, within the the Alpine Lakes Wilderness. Because of its prominent location at the south end of Delta Lake, the falls are often the first thing noticed by hikers visiting the lake's shore. The outflow from Angeline and Chetwood Lakes zigzags 450 feet down a cliff in a wall of water over 100 feet wide. The falls are visible from the entire length of Delta Lake (the eastern shore at least), as well as from the highpoint of the Foss River trail, and practically every peak in the West Fork Foss drainage. The falls - among the best in the Alpine Lakes and are among the best in Washington State - are worth the effort required, which often includes river fords, thick brush and potentially waste deep wading across the outlet of Delta Lake.

Location and directions

Angeline Falls is located at the head of Delta Lake in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness. Accessing the falls is difficult and not recommended for inexperienced hikers. Starting from the West Fork Foss trailhead at the end of FR 68 / 6835, hike in for 2 miles to where Copper Creek is in sight. The Delta Lake waytrail descends to the Foss River, crosses Copper Creek and then climbs an additional mile to Delta Lake, passing Lower and Upper Foss River Falls en route. Best views of Angeline Falls are from the east shore of Delta Lake, which may or may not be accessed by crossing the logjam at the twin outlets of the lake. The logjam at the eastern outlet is often submerged early in the season, making a wet crossing necessary. Consult a topographic map before embarking on this hike.

Photography tips

Though Angeline Falls isn't photogenic in the art sense, it does provide a good backdrop for pictures of Delta Lake. If approached close enough, however, the falls become a great study for illustrating the power of pounding water.
