Lung-yo to-co-ya means "Pigeon Basket" or "Pigeon Nest", hence the archaic name of Pigeon Creek Fall. Ribbon Fall is the tallest single drop waterfall in the United States. Located immediately to the west of El Capitan in Yosemite Valley, it is often overshadowed by the more famous Bridalveil Falls directly across the valley. No doubt people notice it while it's flowing (it's hard to miss), it just doesn't have the name recognition that Bridalveil and Yosemite Falls have. The falls rely solely on the winter snowpack to feed the creek, so once all the snow is melted, the falls dry out. |
